The Aventura 40 is a centre cockpit ketch rigged cruising sailboat of classic lines. 
We decided to develop this plans a few years ago having in mind pleasing the traditional sailors who above all other things consider wood the only material worth building a sailboat with. But the Aventura 40 isn’t simply a wooden yacht of classic lines. She is a great cruising sailboat considering seaworthiness and comfort, and is specified to be built employing relatively modern construction techniques, the wood/epoxy method of boat building, either in strip-planking or in the cold moulded lamination system. Its interior layout is the best you can find in a forty foot central cockpit yacht. This cockpit arrangement allows for the installation of two in suit cabins, one forward and the other abaft the cockpit, having inside access from the saloon by means of a corridor with adequate headroom.

The two secluded cabins give a unique feeling of privacy, allowing two couples to stay aboard undisturbed, having their own private quarters. The access corridor to the aft cabin passes through a hall with standing headroom having a sofa for two persons, a luxury in a boat this size. The U-shaped galley is placed close to the companionway, the most aired place in the saloon. It is complete, with fridge, freezer and stove with oven. The centre cockpit is an interesting feature too, since it provides a sensation of protection from the running seas, leaving the crew much less exposed in case of bad weather. The lines plan has V-shaped cross sections, a relatively high displacement and is provided with a fin-keel of longer root than the typical racing keels found in most plastic sailboats.

However this keel is much more effective than the long keels employed in boats of that vintage. The fractioned sail plan is much more user’s friendly than having to cope with larger sails hoisted in a very tall mast. The ketch rig is also quite practical in heavy weather since the boat remains perfectly balanced when lowering the mainsail and keeping the jib and mizzen alone. Another advantage of this rig is the possibility of hoisting a mizzen staysail.

Owning an Adventure 40 is a privilege and a great reason for pride. Being designed for amateur or professional construction, building one of them may represent a major challenge in one’s life. We are quite certain that if an academic artist chooses painting an oil in a secluded haven with many yachts anchored, an Aventura 40 being there, she will be the one to be picked by the artist as the as the object in prominence. For an office accustomed to designing state of the art racing machines, producing the plans of a classic cruising sailboat is a fascinating challenge, one of the most rewarding enterprises in our careers.
