MULTICHINE 34 / 36

This design is a development in a larger scale of our best-seller the Multichine 28. When we produced the smaller yacht we obtained so many desirable features that we considered it worth trying again in a lager size. We noticed also a high demand for a steel yacht about this size, so our first option was to provide plans for construction with this material. Of course we couldn`t forget the successful building method employed in the Multichine 28, Fiberglas over a plywood inner layer (ply-glass). This way the boat is available for a larger group of enthusiasts with different preferences.

The inside lay-out of this design follows the current trend for this size of boat with two private cabins, a large head aft, an L shaped main saloon and very spacious galley and navigation table, but with certain subtleties that put the Multichine 34 in a place apart concerning comfort aboard. For instance, the main saloon settees don`t go straight to the topsides. Instead lockers are placed behind the back rest with ample shelves on top. The galley is U shaped but out of the transverse range of the stove gimbal for the cook`s safety. Both cabins have plenty of lockers and their own sofa and the berths are extra large. The water and diesel tankage are much above the average in equivalent boats, and few other yachts can compare in stowing space. As a rule there are no confined corners, and engine is accessed by four sides and on top, for easy maintenance. The propulsion is conventional and the propeller shaft is housed in a tunnel at the lower tip of a small skeg placed there for this purpose, this way avoiding the cumbersome propeller strut.

The deck lay-out is absolutely straight forward. Sloop-rigged the Multichine 34 is provided with two pairs of spreaders and four lowers, quite opened apart for maximum longitudinal stiffness. A full-batten main and a furling fore sail will make manoeuvring quite an easy task. The fact that the fore- deck is flush allows for the stowage of an inflatable or solid dinghy in it`s central area still permitting ample access to the forepeak. It is good to say that a solid dinghy was designed to be stowed on the foredeck. This particular dinghy is special in many ways. It is apt to sail, to be rowed or to be propelled by an up to 4HP outboard engine. It is watertight and self-bailing, and it is unsubmersible up to four-hundred kilos load. This dinghy is a good answer for two important functions: a stable tender and a life- saving craft in case of an accident.

The cockpit is spacious enough for eight adults. We recommend the use of a steering wheel for rudder control, but if preferred a tiller may be used with no problem, thanks to the balanced stern-hung rudder. The great advantage of this rudder is the possibility of the installation of a trim-tab, the cheapest and most reliable solution for self-steering.

A shallow draft, low centre of gravity bulbous fin-keel fits this design superbly, allowing for deep and shallow navigation with plenty of safety margin.

The Multichine 36 is the same design as the Multichine 34 except for the telescopic rudder instead of the transom hung one especified for the multichine 34. Besides the hull lines extend to the end of the boarding platform.
