MULTICHINE 37 The
Multichine 37 is a cruising sailboat with a racing pedigree. Her slim hull
lines, together with a fractional rig, an enormous sail area and a high
ballast ratio are the reasons why this model is renown for her outstanding
performance at any point of sailing. Specified for steel, aluminium and
ply- glass construction, this class has a strongly established reputation
and there are more than thirty boats built to date. Zephyr, the first of
the class to be finished, soon started to be considered by the sailing community
as a break-through in steel yacht design. Instead of the ordinary performance
common to most other steel yachts of her size, she proved to be capable
of competing successfully in club races. However the real intention of the design was to provide a blue water cruiser, and soon that aptitude was also confirmed. Antares, a superbly built MC37 sailed from South America to the Caribbean , and from there to Bermudas, Azores and Europe. Antares
had to cope with a severe storm near Azores that brought terrible consequences
to other cruising boats that happened to be sailing in the same region, and
came up unharmed by the bad weather. On the way back Antares sailed non-stop
from the Canary Islands straight to the port of Santos,Brazil in a non stop
trip, without reporting any incident. Next season Antares returned to the
North Atlantic, followed by Tahiu, another MC37. More recently, Anaída,
another MC37 is starting a west to east circumnavigation by way of the roaring
forties. Practically all the owners of these yachts have their own plans
of a long cruise some time, and they feel proud to know their boats are
the right answer to their dreams. |
