SAMOA 34This yacht was designed and produced with an authentic cruising sail boat in mind, capable of accomplishing the most difficult crossings in comfort and safety A very spacious interior allows six adults to sleep comfortably. A forward cabin with double berth, a cosy sofa and an ample locker gives privacy for a couple. A bulkhead separates this cabin from the main saloon, where two symmetrical sofas and a good sized table allow a meal to be served for six persons, or still two adults may sleep, one on each sofa. The small and elegant cabin trunk , placed behind the mast, is surrounded by windows and port-lights, and, with a very handsome front angle, allows visibility all around and at the same time provides good illumination and ventilation. From the after seat of the two sofas, it`s possible to monitor main sail and genoa without the need of even standing up. Under the cabin trunk, besides the two after seats of the saloon`s sofas there is a counter for two sinks and a refrigerator to port, and a large navigation table with it`s own stool to starboard. Going aft, placed to starboard, is the heads with vanity unit and a shower place, and a grated floor board. On the opposite side there is a very spacious after cabin. with a huge double berth, a sofa, and plenty of stowing space. The deck layout is quite simple and functional. The mast is stepped on deck, the best solution in cruising boats minimising the possibility of inconvenient leaks in the saloon. A deep anchor well brings the weight of the chain to a lower level, but still leaves ample space to store fenders in its upper part without interfering with the anchoring procedure. A flush fore deck is a safe factor when foresail changes are performed. It also makes this area of the boat useful for sunbathing or entertaining. It`s also the best place to store a solid dinghy, if this type of tender is preferred. The trunk behind the mast with a very inclined front angle, and a profusion of windows and opening ports, brings lots of daylight and fresh air to the interior. The traveller placed on top of the cabin, slightly in front of the main hatch, is favoured by most sailors, since the cockpit is unobstructed by a clumsy main sheet system. The transom platform is quite low making boarding safe and easy. The sail plan is of moderate size for comfort and safety. The mast fractional rig, with swept backward spreaders, is very simple and strong, the best solution for peace of mind when sailing in very bad weather. The fore triangle is quite large what makes the Samoa 34 a very good boat when sailed with main and jib, a great virtue when short handed. A bulbous keel of relatively shallow draught and low centre of gravity, combined with a well balanced rudder and smooth water lines, make the Samoa 34a joy to sail in light or heavy winds. The construction is specified for cold moulded, strip-planking or fibreglassreinforced plastic. This last option is ideal when more than one boat is intended to be constucted. Composite sandwich construction is na option when only one boat is intended to be built. We provide plans for this method of construction under special order. |
